Every Sunday evening from 6-8pm on Outreach Radio, former Southampton Ice Rink DJ’s Mike “The Music Man” Joyce & Bob Heather take to the airwaves of South Hampshire & the Isle of Wight to bring you the Southampton Ice Rink Memories show.
Sharing great music and fond memories with listeners across the region, many of which used to attend the Ice Rink in decades past, this event will be the biggest reunion to date, and is the perfect opportunity to relive the good times and be hosted and entertained in person once again by Mike and Bob, supported by the team from Outreach Radio.
This event will be recorded and broadcast the following evening on Outreach Radio, so be prepared to hear yourself on the radio! 🙂
As a radio station operated by local people with social benefit objectives as one of our primary functions, we will also be fundraising on the night with great prizes in a raffle in aid of our official partner charity, the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance service. We’ll also be looking for your donations, including the option to donate when purchasing your ticket… so let’s break all records and not just the ice!
Serving the same people across the same geographic area as Outreach Radio, the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance service is a charity that delivers an advanced Critical Care Team to sick and injured people across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight when they need it most.
Available both day and night, 365 days-a-year, the Air Ambulance Critical Care Team is called out many times a day to attend road traffic collisions, sporting accidents, collapses and many other incidents. To find out more, please click on the the logo below.

A little bit of history and background from “The Music Man”, Mike Joyce…
After taking over from Tony Francis as Disc Jockey at The Southampton Ice Rink in 1979 I was not prepared for such a rewarding experience that would put me in good stead for years to follow.
To see the Southampton Vikings Ice Hockey Team in action, meeting Southampton FC Manager Lawrie McMenemy, who attended the balloon launch at the Ice Rink, celebrating V.E. night, guest bands, speed sessions, Easter Bonnet parades, Christmas shows, Southampton Ice Dance & figure skaters etc.
Let’s not forget The Ice Rink was a great meeting place and since it’s closure in 1988 it did not end there!
Bob Heather took over from me in 1983 until 1985. I was then lucky enough to take on the roll as DJ again at the rink for a while.
Bob has attended a few of our Ice Rink reunions over the years, and now many years later has teamed up with me to present the Southampton Ice Rink memories show which goes out every Sunday night from 6pm-8pm on Outreach Radio.
We are so grateful to the Managing Director & presenter (Oz) and Outreach Radio for this opportunity which has proven a great success with former skaters at The Southampton Ice rink.
This is The Ultimate Southampton Ice Rink Reunion not too be missed, and we really look forward to seeing you there.
